California State University Dominguez Hills is a public university located in Carson, California. It was established in 1960 and is affiliated with the California State University system.

California State University, Dominguez Hills History

The establishment for what would later become CSU Dominguez Hills was laid in 1960, when then-Gov. Pat Brown provided state funds to begin campus development. South Bay State College was supposed to be located in Palos Verdes, California. In 1962, the tentative name was changed to California State University, Palos Verdes. A. Quincy Jones, an architect, created a master plan for construction in 1964. The first classes were held in 1965 at the California Federal Savings Bank in Rolling Hills Estates, California, because the permanent campus had not yet been built. The college began with approximately 40 students enrolled.

There are 53 undergraduate majors, 26 master's degrees, and a variety of certificate and credential programs available. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, AACSB International, the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration, the National Association of Schools of Music, and the National Association of Schools of Theatre all accredit the campus. Dominguez Hills also serves as the administrative hub for California State University's Statewide Nursing Program.

Campus

The California State University, Dominguez Hills campus is located on the historic Rancho San Pedro, the area's oldest land grant. The Dominguez family owned the land for seven generations, from its concession to Juan Jose Dominguez in 1784 to its acquisition by the state of California for the university. The Toro, which is Spanish for bull, is the campus mascot. Students at the California State University, Dominguez Hills campus benefit from small class sizes.

Library

Leo F. Cain University Library is the name of the library at California State University, Dominguez Hills. In 2010, CSUDH transformed its Library South Wing into the Leo F. Cain University Library. The expansion received the California Construction journal's Best of 2010 Award for Architectural Design and the Construction Management Association of America's 2011 Project Achievement Award. The Donald R. and Beverly Gerth Archives and Special Collections are located in the California State University, Dominguez Hills library and house the CSUDH archives, digital and special collections, rare books, and the official archives of the California State University system.

Housing services

The housing department at California State University, Dominguez Hills provides housing services. CSUDH University Housing is a 22-story apartment and residence hall complex with one four-story residence hall and three commons/administrative buildings. The buildings are surrounded by grassy areas, trees, and flowers, making them ideal for study or relaxation. There are 32 one-bedroom apartments for two students, 72 two-bedroom apartments for four students, and 60 three-bedroom apartments for six students. Its residence hall has 159 rooms available for double (34 rooms), triple (63 rooms), or quadruple (58 rooms) occupancy. Seventeen (17) of its apartments and four (4) of its residence hall rooms are accessible to students with disabilities.

The Student Health Center at California State University, Dominguez Hills provides medical services. Students seeking medical attention should dial 310.243.3629 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Your call will be answered by a clinical staff member who will determine whether you can be assisted and treated via telemedicine or in person. Staffs are on-site to meet your healthcare needs. All forms and visit questionnaires can now be completed online. The mission of Student Health Services is to provide quality services to meet your primary healthcare needs while you are a student at CSUDH. The center has a caring and professional staff that provides services to maximize your physical, mental, and social health.
