California State University, Northridge is a public university in the Los Angeles neighbourhood of Northridge. It has the second largest undergraduate population and the third largest total student body of the 23-campus California State University system, with a total enrollment of 38,551 students (as of Fall 2021), making it one of the largest comprehensive universities in the United States in terms of enrollment size.

California State University, Northridge History

California State University, Northridge began as a satellite campus of California State University, Los Angeles in the Valley. San Fernando Valley State College was established as an independent college in 1958, with major campus master planning and construction. In 1972, the university changed its name to California State University, Northridge. The 1994 Northridge earthquake cost the campus $400 million in damage, the most ever suffered by an American college campus.

Campus

The Botanic Garden at California State University, Northridge is located in the southeast quad, near the intersection of Zelzah Avenue and Nordhoff Street. It is part of the Biology Department's curriculum for the university, as well as a regionally significant demonstration garden and educational resource for the community. It has new focus projects for plants that can be used for regionally local sustainable landscaping using sustainable gardening techniques, as well as researching and 'planting' ethnobotany insights and links. On the southeastern campus quad, one of the few remaining historic (circa 1920s) orange groves thrives. The citrus industry used to cover much of the San Fernando Valley with groves.

Library

The Library at California State University, Northridge provides students and faculty with educational, cultural, and information services and resources. Its main goal is to support and supplement classroom and independent learning, to facilitate student and faculty research, and to provide students with lifelong skills in identifying, locating, evaluating, and synchronising information. The California State University, Northridge Library, a 234,712-square-foot (21,805.5-square-meter) cutting-edge facility, houses all library materials. Over 2,500 seats are available for in-house study. The Learning Commons, the Creative Media Studio, 5 computer-equipped library instruction labs, and over 150 computer workstations dedicated to library information resources are all worth mentioning. Individuals with disabilities will find specially equipped computer workstations throughout the library, including four assistive technology equipped student study rooms. The California State University, Northridge Library has 1.3 million volumes, over one million of which are books, and over 245,000 bound periodical volumes. The library has access to more than 84,000 online journals, 200 online databases, and over 500,000 ebooks.

Housing services

The residential life and housing development department at California State University, Northridge provides housing services. The Village Apartments are a one- and two-bedroom apartment complex located at the north end of campus, bounded by Lassen Street, Zelzah Avenue, Devonshire Street, and Lindley Avenue. There are 66 one-bedroom and 48 two-bedroom units in the complex, each with one bathroom. Each apartment has direct access from the outside, removing the need for noisy corridors. Kitchens include a refrigerator, range, and garbage disposal. The dining bar in one-bedroom apartments is separate from the dining area in two-bedroom units. Each unit has a separate linen closet and bedrooms with easily accessible, large closets. All apartments are available unfurnished. Window treatments and carpeting are provided.

Medical services

California State University, Northridge offers student health services. CSU Northridge is pleased to provide healthcare services to its student and employee communities. During regular operating hours, Samford's on-campus Health Center is staffed by a Physician and a Nurse Practitioner. All degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students receive free service.

The clubs and organisations programme at California State University, Northridge exists to assist students in creating a space for inclusion and growth by assisting student leaders in accessing campus resources, acquiring skills to use in their future careers, and reflecting on their accomplishments inspiring personal marketability. Student Recreation Center at California State University, Northridge provides sports and fitness services. The Student Recreation Center is a 138,000 square foot exercise and leisure activity facility that promotes lifelong health and wellness. Part time Jobs

On-campus employment is available to F-1 and J-1 students. You are permitted to work on campus part-time (20 or fewer hours per week) when school is in session. If you are eligible and intend to register for the following semester, you may work on campus for 21 or more hours during vacation periods (summer and winter). You will need an International Student Verification Form and a Social Security number to work on campus (SSN).

Student Safety

Students and their families place a high value on safety. It is also a top priority for Student Housing and Cal State Northridge. Multiple security programmes are in place at the University Protection and peace of mind of residents. The DPS has collaborated with Student Housing to provide a dedicated policing team assigned to the residence complex. The team's mission is to provide police services such as crime prevention, problem solving, and community partnerships. The university police department also patrols the residence halls and grounds.
