The institution renamed itself Cass Business institution and relocated to new facilities in the London Borough of Islington in 2002 after receiving a bequest from the Sir John Cass Foundation. Previously, the school was dispersed throughout the Barbican Centre development, which was primarily residential in the City of London. The new building cost £40 million, of which half came from City University's reserves. On September 6, 2021, the school changed its name to Bayes Business School in honor of Thomas Bayes, a nonconformist mathematician and theologian who is best recognized for his groundbreaking work on conditional probability, due to John Cass's ties to slavery.
There are around 4200 students in the university.
