Catholic University of Louvain Background and History

The Catholic University of Louvain is a Catholic, free university (state-funded) which was established in the year 1425 and is located in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. The university is Belgium's largest French-speaking university and has three other campuses located in Brussels, Mons, and in Charleroi. 

Catholic University of Louvain Programs, Courses and Schools

The Catholic University of Louvain is composed of twelve faculties: Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Law and Criminology, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Philosophy, Arts and Literature, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Public Health, Faculty of Motor Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Architecture, and the Faculty of Biological, Agricultural and Environmental Engineering. The university comprises the following three schools; Economics School of Louvain, Louvain School of Management, and Louvain School of Engineering. The university also has four hospitals located in different areas of the country; Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc, CHU UCLouvain Namur, CHU UCLouvain Dinant-Godinne, and Centre Hospitalier Neurologique William Lennox. The university also consists of many research and development institutes and centres. 

The Catholic University of Louvain has more than 31,611 students which include undergraduate and graduate students studying from diverse nationalities. The university has more than 5,815 faculty members. 

Catholic University of Louvain USP

The Catholic University of Louvain provides scholarship opportunities to the students on the basis of academic excellence. The university also Student Societies based around each faculty, those societies are named as Cercles. These Cercles coordinate and manage most of the students' animation and nightlife. Most Cercles run small bars to fund their activities, and also jointly operate a larger nightclub, "La Casa". The university has more than 10 libraries which are open to everyone. The libraries provide print and digital holdings, databases and a multitude of research tools.

Notable alumni of the university includes Pall Skulason (Philosopher and former Rector of the University of Iceland) and Carlos Larrain (President of National Renewal (Chile).
