Three towns—Kokkola, Ylivieska, and Pietarsaari—are home to Centria campuses. Kokkola is home to the main Talonpojankatu Campus. Our students attend the beautiful Campus Allegro in Pietarsaari, which is a community made up of multiple universities. The Vierimaantie Campus is home to a large number of part-time Finnish students. Ylivieska has a lot of research and development going on. The company that owns Centria University of Applied Sciences is Centria University of Applied Sciences Ltd. The Ostrobothnian Chamber of Commerce, the Central Ostrobothnian Entrepreneurs Association, the Federation of Education in Central Ostrobothnia, Kpedu, the Federation of Education in the Jokilaakso Region, JEDU, the City of Pietarsaari, the Raudaskylä Christian College Association, and the Central Ostrobothnia Conservatory Association are among the stakeholders. With a 27 percent stake, the City of Kokkola is the primary shareholder. The learning process and the processes of research, development, and innovation form the foundation of the UAS's operating model.

Her participation in the music competition Idols in 2007 and 2008 [1] and the Finnish X Factor in 2009 marked the beginning of her professional music career. She made several appearances on Yle Radio Vega, a Swedish-language station in Finland, before releasing her Finnish single "Kuin kynsi lakattu" in 2009. 2013 saw the release of her debut studio album, Kaikki rohkeus. In 2012, Ville Pitkäkangas graduated with a bachelor's degree in information technology from Centria University of Applied Sciences. From 2012 until 2014, he was employed at the University of Oulu as a project engineer. He relocated to Centria University of Applied Sciences in 2018, and in 2024 he received a promotion to RDI Expert. Founded in 1991 in Finland, Centria University of Applied Sciences has campuses in Kokkola, Ylivieska, and Pietarsaari with cutting-edge facilities. With specialized labs, R&D settings like the SecuLab for cybersecurity, and specially designed spaces for technology, business, and health, the facilities emphasize hands-on learning with the goal of fostering strong relationships with regional industry.

International undergraduate applicants must possess a high school diploma or a vocational qualification in order to be admitted to Centria University of Applied Sciences. During the rolling or joint application periods (January), applications are made online at Studyinfo.fi. A copy of the passport, evidence of English competence, and an application fee of €100 for non-EU/EEA students are important prerequisites.

At the alliance's General Assembly, which took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, on October 29, 2025, Centria's membership was accepted. A great network for advancing Centria's internationalization, RDI (research, development, and innovation) initiatives, and education is offered by the UNIgreen member institutions around Europe.

By 2025, Centria was engaging in more than 100 RDI (Research, Development & Innovation) projects, including work in robotics, digitalisation, energy, and sustainability. Projects such as TRINITY (robotics and AI demos), RECIRCULATE (battery lifecycle research), and MITATEN (real-time measurement solutions) demonstrate Centria’s role in applied research that supports both industry and societal needs.
In the AVOP 2023 student feedback survey, Centria UAS was rated by its own graduating students as the best university of applied sciences in Finland overall. This student-driven survey looks at areas such as teaching quality, learning environments, internationalisation, student support services, and thesis work. Being chosen as “1” by its own graduates is considered a meaningful achievement in Finnish higher education.

Robotics, artificial intelligence, automation system development and testing, industrial internet, control and systems engineering, mobile systems, and their applications in national and international B2B development and research projects are among the areas in which they have more than 30 years of experience. There are now seventeen professionals in the research group, with one-third coming from outside. For their group, which actively works with foreign organizations, networking and internationalization are important topics.

Their largest facility, Robo3D Lab, is located in Ylivieska, but they also work in Pietarsaari and Kokkola. With development environments for 3D design, 3D printing, drone production, modeling, simulation, and i4.0-type integrated CNC manufacturing, Robo3D facility is the biggest robotics facility in Northern Finland. Kokkola offers mobile robots for internal demonstrations as well as a flexible fleet of collaborative robotics (COBOT) devices. Their technology transfer initiatives are currently being extended to the Ostrobothnia region by the Pietarsaari team. With a lengthy history of machine learning in production, Centria has reinforced AI research across all departments.
