Chestnut Hill College History

The Sisters of St. Joseph established Chestnut Hill College as a women's college in 1924. Mount Saint Joseph College was the original name. The college created a coeducational graduate education program in 1980, and in 2003, it began admitting male students to its undergraduate programs.

Chestnut Hill College Campuses

     The campus at Chestnut Hill is on the National Register of Historic Places. St. Joseph Hall, with its six-story Greco-Roman rotunda and French Gothic facade, Fournier Hall, a masterpiece of Italian Romanesque design, and Clement Hall, which holds classrooms and modest sporting facilities, including a swimming pool, were the principal buildings for many years. The grounds of the site include a grotto and fountain, the House of Loretto, and a magnificent main chapel inspired by the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris.

The Chestnut Hill campus also has a library, residence halls, a cafe, a health and wellness center, and so on.

Chestnut Hill College sports and fitness

       The recreation and fitness center at Chestnut Hill College offers sports and fitness facilities. The Fitness Center is 5,000 square feet in size. At any given moment, the Fitness Center will have a capacity of 25 people. This limit will remain at two staff and twenty-three members. The control framework has been designed to decrease the risk of COVID-19 spreading in the College's Fitness Center. These actions are consistent with the City of Philadelphia's criteria for reopening gyms and indoor exercise courses.
