The City University of Hong Kong is a public research university which is situated in Kowloon Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong and was established in the year 1984 as City Polytechnic of Hong Kong. The University became a fully accredited university in 1994 and is one of eight government-funded degree-granting tertiary institutions. The university includes four campuses: Yeung Kin Man Academic Building, Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Academic Building, Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre, and Lau Ming Wai Academic Building. The University has performed strongly in university rankings and is currently among the top 10 in Asia and the top 100 in the world.

The City University of Hong Kong is organized into four colleges and three schools, including the College of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, School of Creative Media, School of Energy and Environment, and School of Law. The University has 8 Shenzhen Applied Research & Development Centres, 17 College/School Research Centres, 8 Applied Strategic Development Centres, 1 Chinese National Engineering Research Centre, 3 University Research Centres, 1 University Research Institute, and 2 State Key Laboratories. The university offers over 50 bachelor's degree programmes through its constituent colleges and schools. It also offers dual degree programmes with world-renowned universities such as Columbia University. Postgraduate degree programmes are offered by the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies.
The City University of Hong Kong has more than 17,900 students including 12,900 undergraduate students and 5,000 graduates students. The university has 26 departments and more than 845 faculty members and academic staff. The university has more than 900 Associate Degree students. The student to faculty ratio is 2:1.

The City University of Hong Kong has provided the students with The Run Run Shaw Library which was established in the year 1984. The library is located on the university campus and The Library's collection includes more than 1.06 million print books and over 2.00 million electronic books. The University has a sports centre which has a multi-purpose hall and four practice gymnasiums for badminton, basketball, martial arts, dance, and many other activities. The university also provides the students with an Olympic-Size Swimming pool and a full-size outdoor basketball court. The university is "One of the Best Universities in Sports" among 11 member tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. It is the only University that has captured Double Champions 9 times in both Men’s and Women’s Overall Championship in Sports Competitions over many years.
