Clark Atlanta University is the Southern United States' first Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Clark Atlanta University was established on September 19, 1865, it merged with Clark College (founded in 1869) to form Clark Atlanta University in 1988.

Clark Atlanta University's main campus, located 1.4 miles (2.3 kilometres) southwest of downtown Atlanta, has 37 buildings, including an art museum, academic buildings, a library, housing, a fitness centre, and many more.
Clark Atlanta University Libraries
Robert W. Woodruff Library is the name of Clark Atlanta University's library. Only students authorised to be on campus for the spring semester by their home AUCC member institution will have physical access to the library building. All students, including those who are not authorised to be on campus by their home institutions but will be taking classes online during the spring semester, will have full access to the Library's online services and resources, which include electronic book circulation and virtual research services. Librarians will also be available for research assistance through Zoom appointments, which students can schedule or which may be incorporated into the teaching faculty's course delivery. Students can communicate with subject librarians via email, chat, or instant messaging.

Clark Atlanta University housing services are provided by various university residence halls and apartments. All undergraduate students with fewer than 58 credit hours are required to live on campus.
