Columbus State University History

Columbus State University was founded in 1958 as Columbus College. In 1996, the school was renamed Columbus State University. The university was established and is administered by the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents.

 The USP/Achievements of Columbus State University is that the university has received special recognition for its business school, which offers a reputable MBA program, as well as for its servant leadership program.    The main campus of Columbus State University is located in suburban Columbus near the intersection of Interstate 185 and GA-85. The majority of the university's academic and athletic departments are located on this campus. The Simon Schwob Memorial Library, the Center for Commerce and Technology, the D. Abbott Turner College of Business, and the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center, which houses the athletic department, are all notable structures.

Columbus State University Libraries

    Columbus State University was founded in September 1958 as Columbus College. The Columbus College Library first opened its doors in the fall of 1959. The library was located in a room of the old Shannon Hosiery Mill on Talbotton Road in Columbus and had 4,350 square feet of floor space and 166 seats. The Simon Schwob Foundation advocated for the construction of facilities to house a higher education institution in Columbus. Columbus College named its library, which was then housed in the Administration Building, the Simon Schwob Memorial Library in January 1963. In March 1975, the new Simon Schwob Memorial Library opened in its current location. The $2.5 million facility measures 85,000 square feet. Columbus State University Library has millions of books, journals, electronic resources, a music library, a cyber library, and much more.

Columbus State University Housing services

     The residence life department at Columbus State University provides housing services. Clearview Hall, The Courtyard at CSU, and Maryland Circle are the three residential areas on the Columbus State University main campus. Each of these provides students with a safe living-learning environment, allowing them to be successful in their academic endeavors while also forming lifelong friendships and memories. Three housing options are available, each with a facility that includes common areas, study rooms, game rooms, laundry rooms, and kitchen areas.

Columbus State University Medical services

      The student health center at Columbus State University provides medical services. The Student Health Center, located in Tucker Hall on the Main Campus, provides low-cost health care to all currently enrolled CSU students who have paid the Health Fee. It is necessary to have a valid CSU Cougar ID card. Appointments are required for Student Health Center services, and masks are required to enter the building. Its staff consists of registered nurses, a nurse practitioner who specializes in women's health, and two scheduled family practice physicians.

Students can call the Student Health Center at (706) 507-8620 for more information on center services or to make an appointment. In an emergency, students can dial 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
