1. Alumni Endowed Scholars Program
In 1979, the Duke Alumni Association (DAA) started The Alumni Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship to identify the academic and personal achievements of children or grandchildren of Duke Alumni who are approved for undergraduate admission to Duke University and indicate some financial need. The Alumni Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship is granted on the basis of academic achievement, leadership performance, and meritorious activity outside the classroom.
Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines
These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic and personal achievements of children or relatives of Duke Alumni, with a preference for children and grandchildren, who demonstrate financial need.
In addition to monetary support, Alumni Scholars will be a part of a cohort of students with a faculty director, a program coordinator, and additional mentoring support from the Office of Undergraduate Scholars and Fellows. All Alumni students will be part of a student community, and will engage with faculty mentors, program coordinators, guest speakers, and have the occasional field trip.
All first-year students take part in a first-year seminar series across scholarships to engage with each other as scholars, learn from scholars on and off-campus, and engage with the greater Durham community.
2. BENJAMIN N. DUKE SCHOLARS
Benjamin N. Duke Scholars strive to excel academically and to serve as leaders of civic engagement initiatives both on and off-campus. They work collaboratively to build creative partnerships with communities in the Carolinas and beyond. They endeavor to be globally minded and locally grounded while acting as ambassadors representing the Carolinas and Duke University. They engage in critical introspection regarding their ideas and experiences in order to better understand the world and improve our work.
Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines
Ten Benjamin N. Duke Leadership Awards are given annually to North and South Carolina students demonstrating an exceptional academic record, strong leadership, and an affinity for service to their community.
Finalists are selected based on the individual criteria for each scholarship. Finalists for the Alumni, A.B. Duke, B.N. Duke, Reginaldo Howard, and Robertson, University, and Trinity scholarships will be invited to participate in a four-day campus visit at the end of March that will include an interview and opportunities to meet with faculty and current scholars.
