East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is a Tennessee public research university located in Johnson City. Despite its affiliation with the Tennessee State University and Community College System, the university is governed by its own Board of Trustees.

East Tennessee State University History

East Tennessee State University was established year 1911 as East Tennessee State Normal School to educate teachers; the K-12 training school, known as University School, is still in operation today. In 1925, East Tennessee State changed its name to East Tennessee State Teachers College, and in 1927, it was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The college's name was changed to East Tennessee State University in 1963, and it is still in use today.

East Tennessee State University sports and fitness

   The recreational centre at East Tennessee State University provides sports and fitness facilities. The 100,000-square-foot (9,300-square-meter) Basler Center for Physical Activity (BCPA) opened in April 2002. An indoor 40-foot (12 m) climbing wall, walking / jogging track, racquetball / basketball courts, an indoor swimming pool, meeting rooms, and a 15,000-square-foot (1,400 m2) weight room are among the recreational amenities available in the building. The Basler Center also provides a wide range of fitness classes, from yoga to martial arts. Field 1- is a multi-use field designed for softball and flag football, and Field 2- is a natural grass multi-use field designed for softball but can also accommodate flag football, soccer, and other sports. There is a field house and a covered pavilion overlooking Field 1 that are ideal for gathering teams before or after an intramural game.

East Tennessee State University allows students to work part-time. Students will most likely find work that they enjoy, such as tutoring, clerical work, or lab assistance. Working on campus is permitted for international students. Students in the College of Graduate Studies who are awarded an assistantship are compensated for their efforts. Others may be able to work only part-time. Students are not permitted to work until the department in which they will be employed has been approved by the Office of Financial Aid. A student worker can only participate in one work programme and work for one department at a time.
