The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is a New York City public college. It is affiliated with the State University of New York (SUNY) and focuses on art, business, design, mass communication, and technology as they relate to the fashion industry.

Fashion Institute of Technology History

The Fashion Institute of Technology was established in 1944. Artists and designers have called Academy of Art University home since 1929.

Fashion Institute of Technology Programs, Courses, and Schools

Fashion Institute of Technology’s School of Art and Design offers seventeen majors and the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology offers ten majors leading to an A.A.S., B.F.A., or B.S. The School of Liberal Arts offers a Bachelor of Science in art history and museum professions, as well as a Bachelor of Science in film and media. The School of Graduate Studies offers seven Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts, or Master of Professional Studies programmes.

Fashion Institute of Technology Achievements/USP

 The Fashion Institute of Technology's USP/Achievements include being an accredited institutional member of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. FIT publishes research on store branding and positioning. FIT faculty and staff won the first higher education union contract in New York State in 1967. FIT is also the first art university to be invited to exhibit student work at New York Fashion Week twice a year.

Fashion Institute of Technology infrastructure & services

Campus

The Fashion Institute of Technology campus, located in Manhattan's Midtown South neighbourhood, consists of nine buildings that house classrooms, television and radio studios, labs, design workshops, and multiple exhibition galleries. FIT's Conference Center includes the John E. Reeves Great Hall, which can be used for conferences, fashion shows, lectures, and other events. There are also two large theatres on campus: the Haft Auditorium and the Katie Murphy Amphitheatre.

Library

Gladys Marcus Library is the name of the Fashion Institute of Technology library. The Gladys Marcus Library's vast collection of materials, as well as resources available through interlibrary loan, will allow you to delve deeply into your research. The FIT Library has launched several exciting digital initiatives. New materials are added to its digital collections on a daily basis, whether it's video of fashion icons speaking on campus or high-resolution digitizations of French fashion illustrations.

Housing services

On-campus housing is provided by the Fashion Institute of Technology. Traditional residence hall rooms and apartment-style suites are available at Fashion Institute of Technology. Whether you live on West 27th Street or West 31st Street, you're still close to the chic and dynamic Chelsea neighbourhood, the Garment District, the Theater District, Hudson Yards, and other attractions.

Medical services

The Fashion Institute of Technology's student health centre provides medical services. The caring medical staff at Fashion Institute of Technology is here to keep you healthy so you can make the most of your time at FIT. They are available to all FIT students, regardless of insurance coverage. Diagnostic and treatment of general medical conditions are provided by Health Services. The Health Center can assist you with the majority of your health-care needs, including acute issues such as respiratory illnesses (e.g., cold, cough, sore throat, and asthma), skin problems, ear problems, gynecological problems, stomach problems, UTI, and emergencies, as well as chronic illnesses and concerns.

Students clubs

Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) Fashion Institute of Technology student clubs provides social, recreational, and professional opportunities for all students. FIT has a long and successful athletic history. The FIT Tigers compete in Division III of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Numerous FIT teams and student athletes have received national and regional recognition for their athletic and academic accomplishments, including national and regional championships, NJCAA Academic Teams, SUNY Chancellor Student Athletes, and all-region, all-American, and academic all-American honours.

A visa is typically obtained through a U.S. consulate in your area, so you must decide which consulate to work with. Sports and fitness

The recreation and intramural service centre at the Fashion Institute of Technology provides sports and fitness services. The recreation and intramural programme at the college is intended for the participation and enjoyment of the entire college community. Programs encourage physical activity and promote wellness and productive use of leisure time. Participants of all skill levels are welcome to take part. Exercise classes Drop-in fitness classes taught by certified instructors are offered by the Athletics and Recreation Department. Body toning, core training, Pilates, yoga, and Zumba are among the classes available to the entire FIT community. The gym is open. Students, faculty, and staff can participate in team and individual sports such as basketball, dance, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball during open gym hours during the week.

Health and Well-being 

The Fashion Institute of Technology's counselling centre provides health and well-being services. All registered and degree-seeking students are eligible for confidential services at the Counseling Center. We provide 30-minute mental health assessments within 10 days of your initial treatment request. Students in crisis will be given a risk assessment the same day to determine the best course of action.

Residential Life

The Fashion Institute of Technology's Residence Life office is looking forward to welcoming new students for the fall 2022 - spring 2023 academic year. Residence Life at Fashion Institute of Technology Full-time matriculated undergraduate students will be given first priority. To be eligible, students must have 12 or more credits each semester. You must have paid your tuition deposit in order to access the housing application. MyFIT provides access to the online housing application. When you submit your housing application, you must pay a $500 non-refundable deposit..

Part time jobs

Students in F-1 status at the Fashion Institute of Technology may apply for authorization to participate in internships after one academic year of full-time enrollment. Each semester, International Student Services (ISS) hosts several information sessions to explain the conditions of employment eligibility and application procedures. During their first semester of study, all students are strongly encouraged to attend a Work in the US session to learn about F-1 employment options and prepare accordingly. Students with F-1 status may begin working on campus during their first semester of study. There are a few openings in the Admissions office, the FIT Bookstore, the Computer Center, the Academic Skills Center, Residential Life, and Student Life. To pursue these opportunities, students must contact these offices directly; International Student Services does not act as a referral source. While school is in session, employment is limited to 20 hours per week, but may be full-time during official school breaks such as winter, spring, and summer.
