Federal University of Lavras History

The Federal University of Lavras is a public university located in Lavras, Brazil. It was established in the year 1908 as Agricultural School of Lavras, in 1938 it was named as School of Agricultural of Lavras and it was federalized in 1963 and in 1994 it renamed as Federal University of Lavras.

The Federal University of Lavras, offers 30 Undergraduate programs, 20 Master’s programs, and 18 Ph.D. programs. The University also provides 7 distance learning courses. The University has 17 scientific departments. The University has more than 980 academic staff including 8360 undergraduate students and 8221 postgraduate students.

The Federal University of Lavras, the campus is located in Lavras. The University offers various facilities for students such as student accommodation, multi-sport gymnasium, soccer courts and stadium,university integration center with sports and leisure infrastructure, convention hall, automated language lab, radio and TV linked to the education system, publisher,two foundations supporting the institution: the Teaching Support Foundation, Research and Extension (Faepe) and the Foundation for Scientific and Cultural Development (Fundecc).

The Federal University of Lavras, Eduardo Lopes Cancellier student of the program graduate in Soil Science has received the Scholar Award from the International Plant Nutritional Institute in 2016. The University student Jessica Rodrigues was awarded the “Young Scientist Award” for young researcher’s. Professor JenainaSoares from the Department of Physics at the Federal University of Lavras was the only Brazilian researcher to receive the “Outstanding Reviewer Award” from 2D Materials| IOP Publishing Magazine.
