Federal University of OUro Preto was established in the year 1969. It is a public and federal university which is situated in Minas Gerais in Brazil. It holds its roots back in 1839. It was started by the amalgamation of The School of Pharmacy of Ouro Preto and School of Mines of Ouro Preto.

Federal University of Ouro Preto is categorised into six schools, five institutes and a centre for open and distance education. The University Ranking of Folha has received 25th position for its education and 35th position for its research studies. It is among the 11 Brazilian universities which are ranked among top universities by The Times Higher Education. U.S. News and World University Rankings has ranked it among top 100 universities of Latin America. Its students have won a ranking in Computer Congress at national level.
Students are offered with scholarships, grants and fees waivers as financial assistance for higher education. They have to meet the set criteria by the university.
