Federal University of Pernambuco History
The Federal University of Pernambuco also known as UFPE is a public university located in Recife, Brazil and was established in the year 1946 as University of Recife. The University of Recife has its history in Olinda Law School and University of Sao Paulo Law School which was transferred to Recife. The two faculties along with faculty of Medicine and Philosophy created the University of Recife. The university adopted its present name in 1965.

The Federal University of Pernambuco has 3 campuses in total. They are Recife, Vitoria de Santo Antao, and Caruaru. The Recife campus is spread over the area of 149 hectares and is home to the central administration of the university, main library, 9 academic centres, Hospital, and various other recreational sports facilities.
Federal University of Pernambuco’s other campuses house few faculties, classrooms, library, informatics labs, and research centres. The Vitoria campus also comprises of a hospital and art installations donated by the Town Hall.

Federal University of Pernambuco’s Centre of Exact and Natural Sciences is counted as one the highly prestigious research centre in the country. Guia do Estudante and Banco Real (ABN AMRO) rated it the best university in Northern and Northeastern Brazil twice.

The Federal University of Pernambuco is highly selective on its admission policy and hence the acceptance rate is low. In fact, 1 out of every 10 applicants is able to secure a place in the program at UFPE. The tuition fee is highly competitive and numbers of grants are available for students.
