Florida Polytechnic University  

Florida Polytechnic University is a public university in Lakeland, Florida, United States. It is the only public polytechnic university in the state and focused entirely on STEM education.

Florida Polytechnic University History

In 1988, the University of South Florida established a satellite campus in Lakeland, known as the University of South Florida Lakeland. Polk Community College's Lakeland campus shared the branch's grounds (now Polk State College). It had grown to around 4,000 students by the 2000s, and local business owners secured state funding for a separate campus in 2008. The campus was renamed University of South Florida Polytechnic by USF trustees the same year, reflecting a new emphasis on STEM education. Florida Polytechnic University, founded as an independent university in 2012, is the newest of the State University System of Florida's 12 institutions.

Florida Polytechnic University Programs, Courses, and Schools

The university has nine baccalaureate programs, two master's programs, and 31 concentration areas. Curriculum and classroom facilities are designed to support hands-on, applied to learn, and degree programs are geared toward preparing students for STEM-related careers. On August 28, 2019, four Florida Poly bachelor's degrees received ABET accreditation: computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.

USP/Achievements of Florida Polytechnic University is that the college is on the list of Best Colleges for 2022-2023, and U.S. News and World Report ranked Florida Poly as the region's No. 1 public college for the second year in a row. U.S. News and World Report ranked Florida Polytechnic University first among all institutions in the region for Veterans in its Best Colleges list for 2022-2023. U.S. News and World Report ranked Florida Poly No. 2 in the region for graduates with the least student debt in its Best Colleges list for 2022-2023.

U.S. News and World Report ranked Florida Poly among the top 30 public engineering programs in the country without a Ph.D. in its Best Colleges list for 2022-2023.ranked. Florida Polytechnic University is certified by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and ABET, the global monitor and evaluation of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

The 170-acre Florida Polytechnic University campus includes the Innovation, Science, and Technology (IST) Building, two halls of residence, a Student Development Center, a Wellness Center, and an Admissions Center. The University Trail is a multi-use trail that connects to the campus.

  The library collection at Florida Polytechnic University is available in digital format to support all degree programs. Databases, reference materials, journals, and ebooks are examples of resources. Students gain access to these resources via the student portal. The portal provides students with access to resources that have been licensed and are only available to the Florida Poly community. The Florida Polytechnic University library has a digital collection of more than 150,000 full-text e-book volumes, a mix of owned and licensed materials. If the books were not in digital format, the collection would require more than 15,000 linear feet of stack area for shelving.

Florida Polytechnic University  Housing services

Housing halls at Florida Polytechnic University are just steps away from the main classrooms and offer similar amenities such as study rooms, common areas and kitchens, lounges with billiards and ping pong, a community pool, and more. At Florida Polytechnic University, there are two housing options. The 90,000-square-foot Residence Hall I is designed with the modern student in mind, with everything from high-speed wireless internet access to a fitness centre. Units are comfortable, secure, and fully furnished, with the latest technology and amenities to make learning and living outside the classroom comfortable and enjoyable.

Residence Hall II, on the other hand, is designed with a more traditional residence hall feel in mind, with twice as much communal space as Residence Hall I, encouraging students to leave their rooms and create their own social hub.

  Health Clinic provides medical services to Florida Polytechnic University. The Health Clinic, which is housed within the Wellness Center, provides a variety of healthcare services. Lakeland Regional Health provides the Health Clinic, which is staffed by a registered nurse. Students can visit the clinic for general medical services such as acute care, minor illnesses, and injuries. As needed, the clinic can also refer patients to local healthcare providers and specialists.

Basic services are provided at no cost to all students. Anyone with a health concern, who becomes ill, or who sustains a minor injury should visit the clinic for evaluation and/or treatment.

Students have the opportunity to attend Club Row, an expo-style event where all clubs and organizations showcase their clubs, at the beginning of the semester.
