Students can choose between university-affiliated student residences, private dormitories, shared apartments (WGs), and private rental accommodations. The university works closely with Studierendenwerk Freiburg-Schwarzwald, which manages several student halls of residence near the campus. 

One of the most popular student accommodations is the Studierendenhäuser Großhausberg, which provides over 300 furnished student apartments and shared flats within walking distance of the university. The residence includes internet access, study-friendly rooms, washing facilities, common areas, and the well-known student social space called “Speicher.” Monthly rents generally start from around €220 depending on the room type and size.

Students can also choose private student residences such as DreiGe Studentenwohnheim and Studentenwohnheim Unterallmendstraße, which offer furnished rooms, shared kitchens, internet facilities, laundry access, and accommodation close to the HFU campus. Many private accommodations are designed specifically for international students and shared student living.
