Geneva University of Arts and Design  

Geneva University of Arts and Design was founded in 2006. It is a European arts and design school which belongs to the University of Applied Sciences in Western Switzerland.

University History

In 2006 Geneva University of Arts and Design was founded. The institution was formed after the merger of two prestigious schools, the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and the Haute École d’Arts Appliqués, HEAD. In 2016, the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation donated two buildings to the Geneva University of Art and Design. The two buildings are located on Avenue de Châtelaine, are former factories classified as Geneva heritage, which is now HEAD Geneva’s campus where all the activities take place together.

University Achievements/USP

Geneva University of Art and Design Ranks #33 in Global Fashion School Rankings 2017. The university is known for the quality of its bachelor's and master's degrees in Fine Arts, Cinema, Interior Architecture, Space and Communication, Visual Communication as well as Fashion and Accessory Design. The institution established itself as one of the leading schools of art and design in Europe in very less period of time.

University Infrastructure & services

Campus

Geneva University of Arts and Design consists of many workshops, a library, film studio and a vast auditorium, where major cultural events are hosted. The campus also has an amazing Gustave & Leonard Hentsch Park. The university is home to more than 700 students from 40 different countries, as well as 200 teaching staff from around the world. 

BUILDING H
In the 1910s, the Geneva University of Arts and Design’s building H was constructed on the industrial site of Les Charmilles and was restructured in 1944. The building housed the Tavaro factory and its assembly line for Elna sewing machines. In 2017, the university offered exhibitions, performances and fashion shows on the ground floor in Le Cube, while the floors were dedicated to the Interior Architecture and Space Design Departments, and to Visual Communication and Illustration. 

BUILDING E
Geneva University of Arts and Design’s building E was built between 1954 and 1956. The building initially served as the administrative headquarters of the Tavaro company and a showcase for its activities. Now it is home to the school’s administrative offices and reception areas, the library and the Research Institute (IRAD).

BUILDING A
Geneva University of Arts and Design’s building A was built in 1938.  It was designed by Jean Erb, the same architect who designed Building H. The building is now home to the school’s main technical workshops and welcomes BA and MA students in Visual Arts and Film Studies.

BUILDING D
Geneva University of Arts and Design building D links with its more than two-hundred-year-old history. Now the building is home to the Fashion Design and Product, Jewellery & Accessory Design Department, the Chair in Watch Design, CERCO, the Live In Your Head exhibition hall and the HEAD Store.

 The library at Geneva University of Arts and Design is an important part of the educational experience and an invaluable resource for students, faculty, staff, and alumni, but also for the broad community. The library offers a wide range of books and other materials and services to support academic studies and enhance research work at the Geneva University of Arts and Design.
