The university was founded in the year 1891 that started as a small Pacific College. The college had only 15 students in the beginning. In 1949, the college name changed to George Fox College. In 1959, the university got its accreditation. In 1986, it was the first university to offer degree programs to working adults. In 1991, the university celebrated its 100 years. Finally, in the year 1996, the college merged with the Western Evangelical Seminary and became the George Fox University Newberg Campus.
