Gifu University History
Gifu University also abbreviated as Gidai or Gifudai is a national university established in 1949 in Gifu, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The university employs over 800 staff and enrols 5988 undergraduate and 1602 graduate students.
Gifu University Programs, Courses, and Schools
Gifu University offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in a wide variety of subjects such as Education, Regional Studies, Medicine, Engineering, Applied Biological Sciences, Agriculture and Agricultural Sciences, and Veterinary Sciences.
Gifu University’s United graduate school of Agricultural Sciences offers degrees and diplomas jointly with Shizuoka University and Shinshu University. The United graduate school of Veterinary Sciences is operated jointly with Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Iwate University, and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
Gifu University Campuses
Gifu University has its campus based in Yanagida in the outskirts of the city of Gifu in Japan. The university campus is home to all the faculties, the main library, and a medical library. The main library consists of 890,000 volumes, out of which 600,000 volumes are in Japanese and rest in foreign languages, and 17,000 periodicals. 8000 volumes are added each year in the main library.
Gifu University also offers Japanese Language and Culture program through its Centre for Japanese Language and Culture for international students. An exchange lounge on-campus assists the international students to get accustomed to the Japanese way of life.

Gifu University has been ranked higher on the various league tables and rankings of world universities. QS World University Rankings ranks Gifu 106th in Asia. Rankings by Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranks Gifu 25th in Japan for its quality of education and research output.
Gifu University is one of the few universities in Japan to have an on-campus hospital for both humans and animals. The hospitals serve the wider community in the city as well as students at the university. The research conducted at these hospitals is highly valued and often pave their way into leading journals.
Gifu University USP
Gifu University has a student exchange agreement with various universities across different countries. Students are exempt from paying tuition fee when studying abroad and receive a host of benefits from Gifu University. Some of the partner universities are San Diego State University, McGill University, Lund University, University of Utah, and Griffith University.
Gifu University is highly selective and the acceptance rate hovers around 30% to 31%. The university also provides various scholarships, grants, and bursaries to deserving students such as the Japanese Government Scholarship and Gifu University Recommendation.
