Description: Volunteered as a student ambassador, helping to organize and lead campus tours and orientation sessions for new domestic and international students, fostering a welcoming community.
Dr. Kei Ito earned Ph.D. in March 2022, and received the 8th SOKENDAI Award for his work on “Star Formation Activity of Galaxies and its Relationship to Environment in the Distant Universe,” utilizing Subaru Telescope.
SOKENDAI Award was founded in Academic Year 2018 to recognize students who produced excellent doctoral theses. This has become one of the major academic recognitions within SOKENDAI.
Kyoko Onishi, a SOKENDAI student doing research at the NAOJ Chile Observatory, won the Future Scientist Award for her observational research toward black-hole mass, co-evolution of black holes and galaxies.
Institute for Molecular Science (IMS) / SOKENDAI researchers reported a new design approach for constructing complex all-α protein structures — a protein-design advance with implications for synthetic biology and biomolecular engineering.
Researchers at the National Institute of Informatics (a SOKENDAI parent/affiliated institute) developed and publicly released an AI model that estimates biological age from retinal (fundus) images — a potential biomarker tool for ocular and systemic health research.
A landmark observational “invention” / achievement led by the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration that produced the first resolved image of the supermassive black hole in galaxy M87; SOKENDAI-affiliated astronomers and affiliated observatories contributed to the project and analysis.
