One of Japan's national universities is the Graduate University for Advanced Studies, located in Shonan Village, Hayama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. S?kendai was established in 1988, as it is generally called in its abbreviated form. The university kept its headquarters in Nagatsuta, Midori - ku, from 1988 to 1995. The Graduate University for Advanced Studies was inaugurated in 1988 and the Tokyo Institute of Technology headquarters was established. In April 1989, the university officially began admitting students and Dr Saburo Nagakura was appointed as the University's first president. The aim of the Japanese National Graduate Universities is to foresee the future, nurture the broader vision of specialized researchers and thus contribute positively to the public benefit.

Graduate University for Advanced Studies Programs, Courses and Schools

Sokendai is Japan's first national university to offer exclusively graduate programs. For its graduate programs, it accepts both bachelor and master students. Students with a bachelor's degree are admitted to an integrated graduate program for five years, while students with masters are admitted directly to the graduate program for three years. Sokendai consists of six schools with different specializations offered by each school. The university has these six schools: Cultural and Social Studies, Physical Sciences, High-Energy Accelerator Science, Multidisciplinary Sciences, Life Science, Advanced Sciences.
