Griffith University Nathan Campus History

Griffith University Nathan Campus began in 1957. Nathan is Griffith’s most historic learning ground and it has been serving students for about 50 years. In 1993, Foundation Director Professor Ronald Quinn led one of the largest industry-funded research partnerships in Australian history, and set up Natural Product Drug Discovery with AstraZeneca on the Nathan campus of Griffith University. In 2001, Natural Product Discovery formed a group which was led by Dr David Camp to look after the production and storage of the Natural Product Library, later it was renamed Nature Bank. In 2003, Natural Product Drug Discovery was formally recognised as a Griffith University research institute when it combined with two other centres and together bought small molecule therapeutics and adult stem cell research. Nathan campus serves as a home to world-class teaching and research on the environment, corporate sustainability, Asian studies and the emerging biosciences.

Griffith University Nathan Campus-

Nathan campus is Griffith University’s foundation campus. It is situated in tranquil, native bushland on the edge of Toohey Forest which is less than 10 kilometres away from the Brisbane CBD. Nathan campus is a home to over 13,000 students and offers degrees in various programs like- business and government, engineering and information technology, environment, humanities and languages, law, and science and aviation. The buildings at the Nathan campus were designed by Roger Kirk Johnson. The library building was designed by Robin Gibson and he won the first national award for the unique library design. Many buildings, sports facilities, bushland reserves and recreational areas are connected by integrated networks of walking paths on-campus. On the northern edge of the campus lies the Dunn Memorial, a fitting tribute area. In 2013, the six-star, green-rated Sir Samuel Griffith Centre was opened on the Nathan campus. The campus has two residential colleges for students and a wide range of sporting facilities.
