At the undergraduate level, Gujarat University is an affiliated university; at the postgraduate level, it is a teaching university. In fact, the University has been tasked by statute with overseeing post-graduate education, and as a result, it has developed a coordinated instruction plan that is directly under its control and supervision to guarantee effective and varied training. The external examination system in the faculties of arts and commerce, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, is a significant aspect of this university. In order to help working students and others who couldn't afford the exorbitant expense of a university education fulfill their dreams, external exams were developed. Over the past 67 years, Gujarat University has grown astronomically to become one of the nation's top universities. It educates over two lakh students in one of the most diverse fields.
