Gustavus Adolphus College was established in 1862. It is a church-related, residential liberal arts college firmly rooted in its Swedish and Lutheran Heritage. Swedish Americans led by Eric Norelius founded it. In 1862, Eric Norelius founded the predecessor to the college as a Lutheran parochial school in Red Wing.
