In 2008, Hochschule Harz established the Karl Oppermann Foundation, hosting original large‑format oil paintings by the renowned artist. Expanded in 2009 and beyond, the collection now includes 16 works permanently displayed on campus.

Between 2015 and 2017, the InspektoKopter R&D initiative delivered a modular UAV‑based inspection system for wind turbine rotor blades. It automated blade defect detection using multi‑modal imaging and created 3D surface models via aggregated sensor data, along with damage‑recognition software workflows for maintenance documentation
In 2007, Harz University researchers introduced OPTOTEACH, a pioneering plastic‑fiber optical teaching system (POF‑WDM) paired with OPTOSOFT, an augmented‑learning software platform used in photonics laboratory training. OPTOTEACH became commercially available via the spin‑off HarzOptics and remains a unique, interactive educational tool
