Hokkaido University is a public university which was established in the year 1876 and is located in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. The university is a member of the Imperial Universities, which were established to be the nation's finest institutes of higher education or research. The university has two campuses: Sapporo campus and Hakodate campus.

Hokkaido University comprises fourteen faculties: Faculty of Letters, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Dental medicine, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Veterinary medicine, Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Faculty of Science. The university has twenty-two graduate schools, some of them are:  Agriculture, Biomedical Science and Engineering, Chemical Sciences and Engineering, Dental Medicine, Economics and Business, Education, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public Policy, Science, Veterinary Medicine, and many more. 

Hokkaido University consists of more than 20,281 Students which include 11,153 Undergraduate students and 9,128 Graduate students. The university has more than 6,250 Faculty members. 

Hokkaido University provides scholarship opportunities to the students on the basis of academic excellence. The University Library consists of the Central Library, North Library, and departmental libraries containing more specialized books. There are 3.8 million books in the library that can be found using their library catalog (OPAC) from any of the PCs within and outside of the university. The university also provides has a wide range of high-quality sports facilities on campus and also has a University Museum. 

Notable Alumni: Uchimura Kanzo (founder of Non-church Christianity Movement), Mamoru Mohri (Astronaut), Akira Suzuki (Nobel Prize in Chemistry)
