In 2016, Illinois Wesleyan alumna Janelle Monae starred in "Hidden Figures," a film that tells the inspiring true story of African-American women mathematicians at NASA during the Space Race. Monae’s portrayal of one of the central figures, Mary Jackson, helped elevate the film to critical and commercial success. The film received numerous accolades and spotlighted the vital contributions of women of color in science and technology.
