IISER Kolkata's infrastructure is designed to foster an exceptional academic and research environment. The campus features architecturally distinct academic blocks for each department, interconnected by covered walkways. It is equipped with a Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) housing high-end equipment like NMR, Mass Spectrometers, and Confocal Microscopes. The campus includes a fully networked IT infrastructure, a 24/7 power backup system, potable water treatment plants, and modern sewage treatment facilities. The administrative block, faculty offices, and student activity centres are all housed in spacious, well-maintained buildings set amidst extensive greenery.

IISER Kolkata primarily offers a 5-year integrated BS-MS (Bachelor of Science - Master of Science) dual degree program. Admissions are through:
Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Fellowship: Candidates with a valid KVPY fellowship.
IISER Aptitude Test (IAT): Nationwide entrance exam conducted by IISERs.
Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced): Top rankers in JEE (Advanced).
State and Central Boards: Candidates securing within top 1% or 2% (criteria vary) in their Class XII (or equivalent) examination.
Eligibility requires passing Class XII (or equivalent) with Science streams (PCM/B).
IISER Kolkata has a growing and robust campus placement programme coordinated by its Career Development Cell (CDC). A diverse range of national and international companies from sectors including Analytics, Data Science, Finance, Engineering, Research & Development, and Education visit the campus. The process includes pre-placement talks, written tests, and interviews.
