Indiana State University History
The Indiana General Assembly established Indiana State University as the Indiana State Normal School in Terre Haute on December 20, 1865. The first baccalaureate degrees were awarded in 1908, followed by the first master's degrees in 1928. Due to an expanding mission, the Indiana State Normal School was renamed Indiana State Teachers College in 1929 and Indiana State College in 1961. In 1965, the Indiana General Assembly changed its name the college Indiana State University in recognition of the growing student population and degree offerings.

The Indiana State University library provides a variety of academic resources to students. The Special Collections Department at ISU houses 13 major collections as well as several repositories containing books, manuscripts, pamphlets, prints, photographs, maps, and memorabilia. The Permanent Art Collection, which houses approximately 4,000 works of art, is accessible to classes and the general public at any time via a searchable online database or in person upon request. The housing and meal planning department at Indiana State University provides housing services through its various apartments and residence halls. The entire residence hall was recently renovated and includes a mezzanine with laundry, a kitchen area, and a social area with televisions and a pool table. Each student floor has a study lounge as well as a social lounge. Four pod-style bathrooms dot the interior of the student floors, while rooms circle the perimeter.

Indiana State University Medical services
ISU Health Center provides Indiana State University medical services. All undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in one or more credit hours at Indiana State, as well as current ISU employees, are eligible to use the Health Center. Upon arrival, students must show a valid University ID card. The Health Center accepts private insurance and is a member of numerous insurance plans. In addition to their University ID card, students should bring their insurance card. However, plan co-payments are expected to be paid at the time of service. The insurance company will send any unpaid balance to the person listed as guarantor. Accept cash, check, and credit cards, as well as the Associated Insurance Plan and private insurance. Also The UAP Clinic pharmacy, located just north of campus, provides pharmacy services. The Indiana State University operates a 24-hour public safety station at 210 North 6th Street, between Erickson and Pickerl Halls. There are 25 full-time police officers in the University Police Department.
