Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Indiana University of Pennsylvania, abbreviated IUP, is a public research university situated in Indiana County, Pennsylvania.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania History

Indiana University of Pennsylvania was founded in 1871 as Indiana Normal School by Indiana County investors. The Normal School Act, passed by the Pennsylvania General Assembly on May 20, 1875, established the school. They were to be "state" normal schools only in the sense that they would be officially recognised by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As the college's mission grew, the name was changed to Indiana State College in 1959. In 1965, the university was elevated to the status of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, or IUP.
