James Cook University (JCU)

James Cook University (JCU) is an Australian public university located in North Queensland. JCU is Queensland's second-oldest university and a teaching and research institution.

James Cook University History

James Cook University began in 1957, when Professor John Douglas Story, vice chancellor of the University of Queensland, recommended the establishment of a regional university institution to serve the people of North Queensland. The only higher education providers at the time were in Brisbane, the state capital. The University College of Townsville was founded on February 27, 1961. The University College of Townsville became James Cook University of North Queensland after being established by an Act of Queensland Parliament.

James cook University Campuses

James Cook University has four main campuses in Australia's tropical cities of Cairns and Townsville, as well as in Queensland's capital, Brisbane, and the cosmopolitan city of Singapore. JCU's Bebegu Yumba campus in Townsville is the university's largest, comprising 386 hectares in the Douglas suburbs near the army base and Mount Stuart's lee.

  On each of its campuses, James Cook University has a library. Books, film, theses, maps, music, and many more resources are available for loan or viewing in the Library's physical collection to assist learning, teaching, and research. eJournals, eBooks, databases, etheses, newspapers, multimedia, and audiovisual resources are all available in the electronic collections. At any JCU campus library, you can borrow books. To check out books, you'll need your Student ID card or a library borrower card (for community members). Community members can borrow up to 20 standard loan items, while students and employees can borrow an unlimited number of standard loan items.

James cook University Housing services

 Housing is available at James Cook University's multiple campuses in the form of halls and apartments. The Townsville, Bebegu Yuma campus of James Cook University, located in the Douglas neighborhood, features five on-campus residential halls and colleges with a total capacity of 1,158 students. These places provide housing services ranging from self-catering to fully cater. The Nguma-bada campus of James Cook University in Cairns, located in the outer northern district of Smithfield, features one on-campus self-catered residential hall, John Grey Hall, that can house 287 students, and one off-campus, fully-catered student lodge that can accommodate 221 students.

 Every James Cook University campus is connected to a general health facility. Most health treatments require an appointment and some providers charge a fee if you fail to show up for your appointment. Australia is known for its high-quality medical care and health-care system. The majority of Australians are insured by Medicare, a national health insurance system that covers some of the costs of visits to general practitioners (GPs) and medical specialists.
