Established in 1961, the James Cook University is a public university located in Queensland, Australia. It is the second oldest university in state of Queensland. The university campuses are located in Cairns, Singapore and Townsville. It also has study centers in Mount Isa, Mackay and Thursday Island.

The James Cook University comprises of 7 colleges: College of Arts, Society and Education; College of Business, Law and Governance; College of Healthcare Sciences; College of Medicine and Dentistry; College of Public Health, Medical & Veterinary Sciences; College of Science and Engineering; and Indigenous Education and Research Centre. The colleges are nested within two divisions Division of Tropical Environments and Societies and Division of Tropical Health and Medicine. JCU’s staff and students conduct research in the following areas: environmental science and management, fisheries sciences, geochemistry, geology, evolutionary biology, plant biology, zoology, tourism, inorganic chemistry, oceanography, physical geography and environmental geoscience, biochemistry and cell biology, genetics, materials engineering, immunology, neurosciences, nursing, specialist studies in education, anthropology, human geography, linguistics and historical studies. 

The total student population at the university is more than 20,000 students of which over 15,700 are enrolled in the undergraduate programs.

JCU Brisbane is operated by Russo Higher Education and it delivers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business and information technology to international students, on behalf of James Cook University. The university also has specialist centers and institutes based at JCU that serve as hubs for research and innovation.
