Everything You Need to Know About Application Requirements at John Carroll University

Applicants submit the Common Application (or equivalent) along with required essays, high school transcripts, and counselor reports. 

JCU is test-optional / test-flexible: students may submit ACT or SAT scores, but they are not required. If submitted, they are considered. 

Letters of recommendation (typically one) are required. 

High school curriculum requirements are recommended:

• English – 4 units 

• Mathematics (college preparatory) – minimum 3 units (4 recommended) 

• Science with labs – minimum 2 (3 recommended) 

• Social Studies, Foreign Language, Electives – recommended units in each domain 

Holistic review: JCU considers the whole application, including high school record, extracurricular involvement, essays, recommendations, and test scores (if submitted). 

Transfer students: must submit official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions; if having fewer than 25 college credits, high school transcript also required. 

For incoming freshmen, JCU notes acceptance of advanced credit (AP, IB, dual enrollment) subject to evaluation.
