The innovative Lakehead University is a public research university established on July 1, 1965 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. In September 2006 it opened the second campus in Orillia starting with 104 students which is now grown to over 1,400 students. Lakehead University is a two-term academic institution with an eight-month academic year (September to April). Lakehead offers full course equivalent credits (two term courses) and one-half course equivalent credits (one term courses).
The university offers a broad range of degree and diploma programs within ten faculties of Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Natural Resources Management, Graduate Studies, Health and Behavioral Sciences, Medical School (West Campus), Law, Science and Environmental Studies, and Social Sciences and Humanities.
The Lakehead university has over 8000 students with more than 7000 of them studying on undergraduate level. The student to faculty ratio at the university is 25:1 and the acceptance rate is 83%.
The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities indicates that Lakehead graduates employment percentage is more than 90 percent and through the Lakehead University Work Study Program undergraduate students gets an opportunity to work part time during their academic year and flourish their knowledge and skills.
