Lakeland College Vermilion History

The Vermilion Board of Trade advocated for a demonstration farm and/or agricultural college with the provincial government in 1908. The provincial government bought land near seven Alberta municipalities, including the Vermilion townsite, in 1911. In 1913, the Vermilion farm was transformed into the Vermilion School of Agriculture (VSA). VSA was the first of three agricultural colleges to open in 1913, on November 17th. Olds and Claresholm were the other schools. Vermilion College became Lakeland College in 1975, when both the Alberta and Saskatchewan governments began supporting regional facilities.
