London South Bank University

London South Bank University was founded in 1892. It is a public university in Elephant and Castle, London. Initially it was known as Borough Polytechnic Institute. In 1992, it earned its university status under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992.

University History

In 1892 London South Bank University was founded by Lord Rosebery. It is a public university in Elephant and Castle, London. It is based in the London Borough of Southwark, near the South Bank of the River Thames. In 1990, the Polytechnic institute was accredited for Research Degrees and in 1991 the Central Catering College at Waterloo and South West London College merged with LSBU.  In 1992, the institution earned its university status under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992.

In September 2003, the institution name changed to London South Bank University (LSBU). In 2003, it opened various new centers like- the School of Health and Social Care, the Center for Efficient and Renewable Energy in Buildings (CEREB), a new Student Center, an Enterprise Center, and a new media center called Elephant Studios.
