Long Island University Brooklyn sports and fitness

   LIU Brooklyn has a sports and fitness recreation centre. Steinberg Wellness Center is the name of the building. The $45 million, 114,000-square-foot Steinberg Wellness Center, which opened in January 2006, was the largest building project in the history of the Brooklyn campus. The Wellness Center, which is located on the crossroads of Ashland and DeKalb avenues, is a hub of activity for student’s fitness and sports events. The LIU men's and women's basketball, women's swimming, women's volleyball, and women's fencing teams all compete in the SWC.

Long Island University Brooklyn employs both full-time and part-time students in a range of academic and administrative departments. Students are compensated by the university according to the rules.  The University is attempting to enhance justice and equity in its remuneration policies across the institution by standardizing hourly rates. These characteristics are also intended to represent federal and state minimum pay, as well as the varying degrees of knowledge, skills, and talents required for each job. As a result, as minimum wage rates rise, these earnings may be susceptible to change. All student hires (including Federal Work Study, Budget, and Grant students) must be paid at least $15.00 per hour. During the academic year, students are only allowed to work 17 hours per week.

   On the LIU Brooklyn campus, the Department of Public Safety is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for students, professors, staff, and visitors. The safety department at LIU Brooklyn provides security and safety services on foot 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Department of Public Safety at Long Island University's Brooklyn campus is located in the back of Metcalfe building, opposite the Pharmacy building. Public Safety Officers on the LIU Brooklyn campus are licenced by the State of New York and are trained, certified, and registered in accordance with the New York State Security Guard Act of 1992.
