Student Support

MDU provides a dedicated Student Centre where you can get assistance for most student queries and services. On its campuses, students can access helpdesks, student kitchens, locker rooms, and quiet rooms for rest or study.  The university’s premises programme also emphasises a safe and supportive environment: for example, access to the campuses requires an MDU-card and PIN, group rooms are bookable, and there is guidance for reporting incidents to maintain a good study environment.

Student Life

Student life at MDU is enriched by the campus’ proximity to city centres and recreation facilities. The Västerås campus is located near the Rocklunda sports complex and the old town with cafés, restaurants and cultural life.  In Eskilstuna, the campus lies in the heart of the city with nightlife, parks, shops and entertainment easily reachable. Student associations organise social activities, sports groups (for example ELSA – Light Sporty Academics) and events for both local and international students.

Housing facilities (Accommodation)

For accommodation, MDU collaborates with local housing agencies — notably Bostad Västerås (for the Västerås campus) and Bostad Eskilstuna — to help admitted students find suitable apartments or rooms.  The majority of English-taught students, especially international students, apply through Bostad Västerås where they may view available units, register interest and secure an offer.  While MDU does not own all student housing directly, their process ensures access to furnished or semi-furnished studio-type apartments located in the city.

Student Safety

Safety at MDU is explicitly addressed through guidance for emergencies, fires, serious incidents and violent threats. For example, the “Safety at MDU” webpage states that in case of life-threatening incidents students must follow the ‘run, hide, call 112’ protocol.  The university also lists emergency contact numbers for facilities and security hotlines during off-hours.  These measures indicate a structured approach to campus safety and crisis preparedness.

Career Support

MDU supports students’ career preparation through several initiatives. For instance, students can apply to work as student ambassadors, mentors or in other roles that build communication, planning and networking skills.  The university also provides study-guidance services that connect course choices to labour-market outcomes and offers a job-portal for part-time jobs, degree-projects, internships and trainee positions.  According to a report, approximately 81 % of MDU graduates find a job in their field within a year of graduation.
