A Living Test-Bed for Sustainable Technology

The campus was architecturally designed by Foster + Partners to function as a prototype for Masdar City and sustainability innovation. It was the world’s first building fully powered by renewable solar energy, with over 5,000 m² of rooftop photovoltaics and a 10 MW solar field that produced 60% more energy than the campus consumed—feeding the excess back into the grid. Its façades and courtyards utilized passive design strategies to naturally cool pedestrian walkways and buildings
