McMaster University

McMaster University was founded in 1887. It is a public research university located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The university got its name from William McMaster, who was a prominent Canadian senator and a banker (first president of the Canadian Bank of Commerce).  

University History

In 1887 McMaster University was founded. It is a public research university in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The main McMaster campus is spread across 300-acres of land. Initially, the institution was founded in 1881 as Toronto Baptist College. In 1927, the university administration decided to move the university to Hamilton. The Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec administered the university until it became a privately chartered, publicly funded non-denominational institution in 1957.The university serves international students from more than 75 countries worldwide.

Campus-

McMaster University is located in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, in the Golden Horseshoe along the western end of Lake Ontario. The main campus of the university is surrounded by Cootes Paradise in the north, an extensive natural marshland to the east and west by residential neighborhoods and by Main Street West to the south. The main campus is spread across 377 acres of land. Other than main campus in Hamilton, McMaster owns several other properties around Hamilton as well as in Burlington, Kitchener, and St. Catharines, Ontario.

McMaster's main campus is divided into three main areas: the Core Campus, North Campus and West Campus. The Core Campus has most of the university's academic, research and residential buildings, while the North Campus consists of the university's athletic precinct and a small amount of surface parking. The West Campus is the least developed area of the main campus, it comprises only a few buildings, surface parking, and undeveloped land.

Initial Study Permit

All McMaster University students need to have legal status in Canada, and you will need to present your status documents to get your student card. If this is your first time applying for a study permit, you can do it at the nearest Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. You can apply for your permit as soon as you receive your Offer of Admission from the University of Toronto and decide to accept. Because the permit legally entitles you to study in Canada, you will need it before you enter the country.

Temporary Resident Visa

Students from certain countries may also require an entry visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), to enter Canada. TRVs are issued by Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC).

CIC’s requirements may differ depending on your specific geographic region. For instance, some CIC offices require proof of English language proficiency in the form of a standardized test (such as TOEFL or IELTS). A medical examination and proof of funding may also be required.
