Mohawk College

Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology is a college located in Hamilton, Ontario. Constituted in 1966, it is a college of applied Arts and Sciences. The three main campuses of college are the Fennell Campus on the Hamilton Mountain, the Stoney Creek Campus in Stoney Creek and the Mohawk-McMaster Institute for Applied Health Sciences at McMaster University. Currently, there are 30000 students studying in the college.

Mohawk College History

Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology was constituted in 1966. Mohawk College was founded in 1967 as a part of an initiative to provide career-oriented diplomas and courses in the province. Mohawk College was also constituted for the purpose of continuing education programs in Ontario communities.

The achievements of Mohawk College are as follows-

  • Mohawk College is ranked among top 10 universities in Ontario. It was given a world ranking of 6218 in the world by Webometrics.
  • It comes under the top 20 universities in Canada for Applied Science and is ranked 85th in the whole Canada by Webometrics.
  • Mohawk College is a recipient of three national Yves Landry Awards and the McMaster

University’s Bachelor of Technology Partnership was recognized with the Yves Landry 2006 Innovative Manufacturing Technology Program Award. Students of Mohawk in the Advertising department have won more than 30 national Canadian Marketing Association awards.

Mohawk College USP

Mohawk College conducts special English language training programs for international students to reduce any linguistic barriers to their learning process. Mohawk College opened a Centre for Aviation in 2021 which is 75000 square feet in area and has a classroom and a laboratory space. The Centre is located near the Hamilton International Airport. Mohawk has a student faculty ratio of 12:1.

Mohawk College Infrastructure

Mohawk College has three main campuses which are-

The college provides all sorts of services such as transport and parking, one card, food services, campus stores for shopping, bookstores, conference services and sports facilities etc. Mohawk College Campus The Fennel Campus The main campus of Mohawk College, Fennel was opened in 2018 with an investment of $54.25 million. The Fennel campus accommodates Mckeil School of Business, David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre and The Mcintyre Performing Arts Centre.

Stoney Creek Campus

The Stoney Creek Campus currently trains over 4000 apprentices and is the largest trainer in Ontario. The under-construction Gerald Marshall Centre will be the newest addition to the campus with an area of 12000 square feet. The Centre will be inclusive of class- rooms and control labs.

IAHS at McMaster University in Hamilton

IAHS is the campus where Health Sciences and Research come together and are taught to more than 1700 students. The collaborative nursing and health sciences courses have been bestowed with the highest accreditations. The campus will be transformed into a simulated hospital and Care-Centre with a budget of $3 million, the transformation for which was started in 2016.

Library

Mohawk College has five different libraries out of which one is an e- library. The library of the Fennel Campus is called the Harold Cummings Library. It was named after the late Harold Cummings who had donated $4 million to the construction of the library. Other libraries are the Stoney Creek Library and the IAHS Library. The libraries in Mohawk College have books covering various topics, journals and magazines, video databases, e-books and research materials.

Housing Services

Only The Fennel Campus of the Mohawk College provides on-campus accommodation. The hostel has 170 fully-furnished two-bedroom suites which have television and Wi-Fi as well.
