Morehouse College was established in 1867. It was founded at Springfield Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga., by the Rev. William Jefferson White. The college, in the beginning, was named Augusta Institute. In 1879, it became the Atlanta Baptist Seminary then in 1897, it was named Atlanta Baptist College.
