The Saadiyat Island campus of NYU Abu Dhabi is a pedestrian campus that reflects the university's three identities—Abu Dhabi, New York, and the world—by fusing traditional and modern architectural elements. The campus, which spans about 40 acres and was designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects, encourages interaction between living and learning, research and teaching, and the disciplines as well as between faculty, students, and staff. The campus's layout promotes this interaction in a number of ways, including the way offices are arranged, visibility over expansive regions and between indoor and outdoor spaces, links between buildings so that none stand alone, outdoor meeting areas, and residential living. Most importantly, the NYU Abu Dhabi campus seeks to foster a close relationship with the Abu Dhabi community and, more generally, the region through outreach programs for families and kids, museum-caliber exhibitions, public art performances, and academic collaboration.
