New York University Tandon History

The New York University Tandon is the United States' second oldest private engineering and technology school. The predecessor institutions of the school, the University of the City of New York School of Civil Engineering and Architecture and the Brooklyn Collegiate and Polytechnic Institute, were founded in 1854. The school was renamed in 2015 in honor of NYU Trustees Chandrika and Ranjan Tandon, who made a $100 million donation to the school.

New York University Tandon’s USP/Achievements include the university's numerous accreditations from various institutions. The Middle States Association has accredited all undergraduate and graduate programs at the engineering school. Undergraduate chemistry students have the option of pursuing an American Chemical Society-approved degree (ACS). Tandon's incoming classes average around 700 students, with a total academic population of more than 5,000. The average SAT score for incoming freshmen in fall 2019 was 1448. In 2016, the acceptance rate for graduate programs was 28%. In 2018, the PhD student-faculty ratio was 3.6:1. International students represented 91 countries in fall 2018, while domestic students represented 47 United States. There are 28.8% females and 71.2% males among the student body.

Campus

The main campus of New York University Tandon is located in Downtown Brooklyn and is easily accessible by public transportation. It's in Brooklyn's Tech Triangle, about a 20-minute subway ride from NYU's main campus in Lower Manhattan. The NYU Shuttle Bus system connects it to the Washington Square campus. The school offers programs in Manhattan in addition to its main address at MetroTech Center in Downtown Brooklyn. Bern Dibner Library is the name of New York University Tandon's library. Dibner Library strives to provide the best library services possible to engineering and technology scholars by maintaining a variety of open and reservable study spaces, access to all Tandon required course materials and assistance in using library resources. The residential department at New York University Tandon provides housing services. Residential Life and Housing Services is in charge of the overall administration and operation of the 22 residence halls and two graduate living communities at New York University Tandon, which house approximately 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students during the academic year and summer session. Tandon Student Health Center (SHC) at New York University is a campus resource and service center for all matriculated students. The main campus of New York University Tandon is located in Downtown Brooklyn and is easily accessible by public transportation. It is located in the Brooklyn Tech Triangle, about a 20-minute subway ride from the main campus of New York University Tandon in Lower Manhattan. The Bioengineering Institute's Manhattan research facility is located at 433 First Avenue. The School of Engineering, as well as the Colleges of Nursing and Dentistry, are housed in the same building where chemical, biomolecular, and mechanical engineers conduct research on biomaterials and biotherapeutics for regenerative medicine.

Sports and fitness

Students and athletes at New York University Tandon can participate in a variety of sports and fitness activities. From ice hockey to ballroom dancing, NYU has 24 club sports teams. Some club sports are purely recreational or instructional in nature, while others offer serious league competition. The desire to participate is always more important than athleticism, regardless of the level of commitment required by the club sport. Last year, over 1,250 students participated in intercollegiate club sport teams, with graduate students accounting for 20% of the total.
