Newcastle University Background

Newcastle University is a based in Newcastle in the North East of England. The university was started in the year 1834 as the school of medicine and surgery and became an autonomous university in the year of 1963.

Newcastle University Programs and Courses

There are 24 academic schools and 40 research institutes and research centres for teaching and research activities, and it is spread across three Faculties, These are the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; the Faculty of Medical Sciences; and the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering. There are various degree programs offered by the university in a wide range of subject areas including arts, sciences, engineering and medicine. These are in addition to approximately 340 postgrads and research programs which are taught across a variety of disciplines. 

Newcastle University Campuses

The university has a campus site near central Newcastle upon Tyne. It is situated near the city centre between Leazes Park and the Town Moor. The oldest building on campus is the Armstrong building, and it's the also the site of the original Armstrong college. Newcastle University Business School started a London campus in September 2015.

Newcastle University International Campuses

 The university's first branch abroad was opened In September 2008, in Singapore called NUMI Singapore. This later developed beyond marine subjects and grew as the Newcastle University Singapore, primarily through becoming an Overseas University Partner of Singapore Institute of Technology. The Medical School then opened a campus in Malaysia, Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia.

The university is a member of the Russell Group of the UK's research-intensive universities. It is ranked in the top 200 of most world rankings, and in the top 25 of most UK rankings. It is ranked 141st by QS, 114th by Leiden, and joint 171st by Times Higher Education globally in 2018, while nationally, it is ranked 21st by the Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide, 22nd by the Complete University Guide and 27th by the Guardian for 2018
