The application process begins by applying through Studielink, the Dutch enrolment portal. After submitting your application, you will receive an email with instructions to activate your student email address and access the iGo-portal, where you must upload required documents including your passport copy, diploma/grade sheet, CV, and motivation letter
You need to submit a copy of your passport or EU/EEA ID card, a full-colour scan of your grade sheet and diploma (or latest grade sheet if diploma not yet received), and for non-EU students and those applying to Hospitality Management, short-track, or Master programmes: a Curriculum Vitae and motivation letter
NHL Stenden offers two main scholarships for non-EU/EEA bachelor students. The NL Scholarship provides a one-time payment of €5,000 for talented international students in their first year, requiring a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 or native English speaker status
To apply for the NL Scholarship, you must first be admitted to a full-time Bachelor programme starting in September. The application period runs from 1 December to 30 April for the following academic year
NHL Stenden does not arrange housing directly but has official accommodation partners to ensure quality and peace of mind. Through StudentStay in Leeuwarden, housing is guaranteed for EU students who reserve before 10 May (September intake) or 25 November (February intake), and for non-EU students who reserve before 1 July (September intake) or 12 December (February intake)
Accommodation in the north of the Netherlands is more affordable than in other parts of the country. In Leeuwarden, options include student dorms for two with own facilities (€510-€600), shared apartments with own bedroom (€630-€800), studios (€890-€1,100), and apartments with separate bedrooms (€1,100-€1,460)
Non-EU students typically need both an entry visa (MVV) for entering the Netherlands and a residence permit (VVR) for study purposes .
The visa application costs €243 (non-refundable) . Students must provide proof of sufficient financial means (€14,000 for living expenses) either through a money transfer to NHL Stenden's bank account (refunded upon arrival after opening a Dutch bank account) or proof of a scholarship of at least €14,000. Health insurance for the first year costs approximately €700, arranged by NHL Stenden. Tuition fees are additional. All payments and documents must be submitted before the visa deadline to avoid processing delays.
