The Nipissing Lakers women's ice hockey team advanced to the U Sports National Championship for the first time in 2022, returning to North Bay as national silver medalists. This achievement marked a significant milestone in the university's athletic history
During the 2019–20 athletics season, the Nipissing Lakers secured their first 705 Challenge Cup. This annual competition between Nipissing University and Laurentian University encompasses various varsity sports, fostering regional athletic rivalry and camaraderie.
The university expanded its athletic offerings by introducing a women's ice hockey team in the 2013–14 season. This addition provided new opportunities for female athletes and enhanced the university's sports culture.
In June 2011, Nipissing University inaugurated the Harris Learning Library, a state-of-the-art facility that has since become a central hub for student learning and research. The library's innovative design was recognized with the American Library Association's Interior Design Award in 2012 and the Ontario Library Association's New Library Building Award in 2013.
