North Carolina A and T State University's history started in the year 1890 when the Second Morrill Act passed in US Congress. The college became a co-education institute in the year 1893. The college was renamed Negro Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina in the year 1915. In 1969, it gained University status and name.
