Northeastern Illinois University History

Northeastern Illinois University can trace its roots back to Chicago Teachers College (now Chicago State University), which was founded in 1867 as the Cook County Normal School to train elementary and secondary school teachers. The Illinois Legislature removed the title "teachers college" from all state colleges and universities in 1967, and the college was renamed Northeastern Illinois State College. Northeastern Illinois University was renamed again in 1971.

The campus of Northeastern Illinois University is located in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
