completing the university application :
Northern College offers bachelor’s degree programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and the Bachelor of Computer Science in collaboration with Algoma University. Admission requirements for these programs are as follows:
General Admission Requirements:
• Educational Background: Applicants must possess the equivalent of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). This typically includes completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent level of secondary education.
• Academic Performance: A minimum cumulative average of 60% or a C-grade is generally required. Specific programs may have higher grade requirements.
English Language Proficiency:
For applicants whose first language is not English, demonstrating proficiency in English is essential. Accepted tests and minimum scores include:
• IELTS Academic: An overall score of at least 6.0 bands for undergraduate programs.
• TOEFL iBT: A minimum score of 79.
• PTE Academic: An overall score of 58 or higher.
Applicants who have completed their education in English or have had English as the medium of instruction throughout their schooling may be considered for a waiver of the English proficiency requirement. It’s advisable to contact the admissions office for specific criteria and confirmation.
Program-Specific Requirements:
Certain programs may have additional admission criteria:
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN): This collaborative program with Laurentian University may have specific prerequisites, such as courses in biology or chemistry. Applicants should review the program’s detailed admission requirements.
• Bachelor of Computer Science (in partnership with Algoma University): Applicants who have completed a previous computer science or related credential, such as a diploma or certificate, will be considered for admission. Those with a first degree in an unrelated field will need to be assessed to ensure they meet Algoma University’s second-degree regulations.
Application Process:
1. Application Submission: Apply through the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) International Applicant Portal. A non-refundable application fee of $100 CAD applies.
2. Supporting Documents: Submit official transcripts for all completed or in-progress education, a valid passport copy, and proof of English proficiency test results. If transcripts are not in English, provide notarized translations.
3. Additional Requirements: Some programs may require health and immunization records, CPR/First Aid certification, criminal record checks, or specific equipment. Ensure you review the specific requirements for your chosen program.
