Northern Illinois University History
Northern Illinois University's history started in the year 1895 by the governor of Illinois, John P. Altgeld. The main aim of the establishment of the University was to expand the learning system of the state to produce college-educated teachers. In July 1955, it was renamed Northern Illinois College and in 1957 it got the title of the University.
